A POS for hair salons that sell as much as they cut

Hair is the hardest of the salon trades to run on a simple till: variable service times, a stylist hierarchy with different rates, back-bar stock that disappears, and retail that should be half the profit and usually isn't.

Variable chair time

A cut is forty minutes, a colour with a treatment is three hours, and the client who said “just a trim” will want highlights once she is in the chair. The calendar has to take a booking being lengthened on the day without the rest of the column falling over — drag the bottom edge, the system re-checks the clash, and the stylist's utilisation updates.

The stylist ladder

Juniors, seniors, directors — different prices for the same service, different commission rates, and an assistant who shares the work. Commission comes out of what was rung up rather than a notebook reconciled at month end, and the payroll module carries it through.

Back-bar is where the money leaks

Retail stock gets counted because it has a price on it. Back-bar colour, developer and treatment often doesn't, which is how a salon can be busy all month and still wonder where the margin went. Stock Inventory counts both, and counts them per branch.

Retail at the till, not as an afterthought

Products belong on the same bill as the service, with the stylist attached, so the retail attachment rate is a number you can see per person rather than a guess.

What comes with it

  • Cashiering — the till itself: services, products, packages, deposits, split payments, receipts.
  • Customer Data Analytics — who is spending, who has lapsed, what they buy.
  • Stock Inventory — retail and back-bar, across branches.
  • Appointment Manager — the calendar your counter actually lives in.
  • Live Sales Tracker — today's takings while the day is still running.
  • Loyalty Program — credit balances, packages and sessions left.
  • Promotions & Birthday — SMS that goes out on its own.
  • Staff Commission & Payroll — commission worked out from what was actually rung up.

What it costs

$2,500Software, per branch. Paid once.
$3,500With hardware — laptop, thermal receipt printer, cash drawer, setup and installation.
about $57/moMaintenance per branch, from year two. $688 a year.

The first year's maintenance is included in the purchase. Big Mouth Marketing is not GST-registered, so the figure you see is the figure you pay. There is currently no grant for FingerBooth.

Questions we get asked

Can different stylists have different prices for the same service?

Yes. Service pricing can follow the stylist, which is how most salons with a junior-to-director ladder actually charge.

Does it track back-bar stock?

Stock Inventory covers both retail and back-bar, across branches, so colour and treatment going out the back is counted the same way as a bottle sold at the front.

How does commission work for an assistant who helped?

Commission is calculated per staff member from the transactions, and the Staff Commission & Payroll module handles the split so the maths is not done by hand.

What does it cost?

$2,500 per branch, paid once, or $3,500 with hardware. $688 per branch per year from year two, which is $688 a year. No GST.
